A couple of the suggested Historical Fiction books are favorites of mine.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – Set during the Civil War, Little Women follows the life of the March family.
(I'm looking forward to another movie on LITTLE WOMEN. I love reading a book and treating myself to the movie afterwards.)

Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George - To her small Eskimo village, she is known as Miyax; to her friend in San Francisco, she is Julie.
